Who is FANA?

Image of FANA EntranceFANA stands for the Spanish term "Fundacion para la Asistencia de la Niñez Abandonada". In English that would be "Foundation for the Assistance of Abandoned Children"

For over 34 years, FANA has given over 12,000 children a chance at a fulfilling and healthy life, and has helped place thousands of children into loving and caring families throughout the world. Mercedes Rosario de Martinez, the Director and Founder of FANA, is the cornerstone of this wonderful orphanage which is located in a suburb in the northern part of Bogotá. She has dedicated her life to the aid of children of all ages who are in need of a family.

FANA is a modern facility with excellent up-to-date medical care, staff and equipment, and is capable of caring for up to 170 children. In addition, for birth mothers who are seeking assistance in their very difficult decision to place their child for adoption, FANA supports an excellent program through their full-time physicians and medical personnel that gives the birth mothers top of the line pre-natal medical care and delivery services, as well as one on one counseling so that they are making their decision with sound judgment and understanding of all that adoption is about.

It is not always possible to find a family for all children in need though. Another wonderful fact about FANA is that they provide ongoing care and education for these children who need them most.
